Powell Shutters Panama City: Powell's four-station Panama City cluster, which includes Country WKNK (Kick'n Country), has gone dark after sustaining major damage to its facilities with Hurricane Michael. Notification of Suspension of Operations/Request for Silent STA applications have been filed with the FCC for each property. "In light of the of the devastation which has occurred in the Calloway area, including to the broadcast facilities of Powell Broadasting Company, LLC, it respectfully requests a special temporary authority to remain silent," WKNK's submission reads. The station's STL tower reportedly collapsed during the storm, which in turn damaged the roof of the group's studios. It's not yet clear what the move means for employees, though WKNK morning hosts Flip and Streeter remain active on social media with news and information related to local recovery efforts. More here.
