Smack NAB: The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) issued a statement expressing the organization's satisfaction with the Department of Justice's decision to take no action on the ASCAP and BMI consent decrees. "DOJ's decision not to take action will ensure that ASCAP and BMI continue to fairly and efficiently license musical works in a manner that is pro-competitive," comments Pres./CEO Gordon Smith. "Broadcasters look forward to continuing to work with the performance rights organizations for the mutual benefit of songwriters, music licensees and listeners.” The Antitrust Division has engaged in an investigation regarding the future of public performance licensing for musical works for the past several years, and the DOJ opened a request for public comment regarding the consent decrees in 2019 (CAT 6/5/19). Read today's remarks by Assist. Attorney General Makan Delrahim here.
