Study Group: The Recording Academy is partnering with the Berklee College of Music and Arizona State University to conduct a study on women's representation across the music industry. Primary goals are "to further establish a baseline analysis on women's representation working in the American music industry, learn more about the available talent pool of women in music and set priorities around music creators and aspects of mentorship." "The results of the research will serve as a guide for much-needed reforms in the industry at-large," says Recording Academy Chair/Interim Pres./CEO Harvey Mason Jr. The Academy publicly reported gender representation amongst the 853 nominees in 84 categories for the first time in the organization's 63-year history: 198 identify as women, representing 23% of nominees. The effort will build on Berklee's 2019 study, "Women in the U.S. Music Industry: Obstacles And Opportunities," and is expected to be completed in early 2022.
