Chronicle Artist and banjo player Sonny Osborne passed away yesterday (10/24). He was 83. Sonny was born in Roark, KY and started playing banjo at age 11. He and his brother Bobby formed the Osborne Brothers in 1953. The duo charted 18 singles between 1958 and 1980, the most enduring being 1967's "Rocky Top," which was named the state song of Tennessee in 1982. The brothers were also named the 1971 CMA Vocal Group of the Year and were inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 1994. Sonny retired in 2005. Services are pending.
