» Feel Like A Number: Here are some of the latest Fall 2009 Arbitron diary ratings results in the top 150 markets, listed by metro size. All figures are persons 12+, Monday-Sunday, 6am-midnight, with rankings in parentheses. You'll find additional ratings from last week's releases in tonight's Country Aircheck Weekly.
  • Orlando: Cox's WWKA improved 5.1-5.4 (5-4) to its best book in a year. Hall's WPCV/Lakeland advanced 0.9-1.1 (18-18).
  • Columbus, OH: In this subscriber-only metro (therefore no rankings), Clear Channel's WCOL rebounded from a soft Summer, 5.8-7.5, in its best autumn sweep in three years. Wilks' WHOK also did better, up 4.1-4.3 in its strongest Fall survey in many years. Bob Pricer's WCLT-FM stepped ahead 2.3-2.6, earning its best numbers in recent memory. Wilks' WNKK bumped up 1.1-1.2, its highest performance since Fall '07.
  • Fresno: Peak's KSKS jumped 4.1-6.5 (7-3) to its highest ratings in several years. CC's KHGE declined 2.7-1.9 (13-18t).
  • Daytona Beach: Cox's WWKA/Orlando was off 5.8-4.6 (3-7). Black Crow's WKRO-FM dropped by half, 3.6-1.8 (9-16). Wooster Republican Printing's WOGK/Gainesville edged up 1.3-1.4 (19t-18t).
  • Colorado Springs: CC's KCCY gained 4.9-5.7 (8-7), posting its best results since Spring '08. After two consecutive strong surveys, Citadel's KATC fell 6.9-4.4 (3-10).
  • Ft. Pierce: CC's WAVW dipped 6.4-6.0 (3-3), but scored its best Fall book in three years. CBS Radio's WIRK/West Palm Beach more than doubled, 1.2-2.9 (20t-11).
  • Melbourne: Congrats to Cox's WWKA/Orlando, which accelerated 4.5-6.4 and from a tie for seventh to No. 1. Cumulus' WHKR decreased 5.0-4.1 (6-8t).
  • Fayetteville, NC: Beasley's WKML grew 9.4-10.6 (2-2) easily beating Fall '08's 8.2. Curtis' WQDR/Raleigh rose 1.3-2.1 (16t-12), while Qantum's WEGX/Florence, SC emerged 0.0-1.1 (0-19t).

» Broadway Play: Clear Channel's WBCT/Grand Rapids night personality and Premium Choice Country jock Broadway is moving within the cluster to host mornings on CHR WSNX. CC's WAMZ/Louisville morning co-host Chris Randolph is picking up Broadway's weekend night shifts at PC, though Broadway will continue to voice track his shifts for CC sisters KWNR/Las Vegas, WMIL/Milwaukee and WWYZ/Hartford. 'BCT OM Doug Montgomery "needs a killer night jock yesterday!" Airchecks and resumes to Human Resources, WBCT, 77 Monroe Center #1000, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503.
 

» Mayne Event: Industry vet Bill Mayne's Mayne Street Consulting will continue to oversee CRB operations through CRS 2010 Feb. 24-26. "During this period of transition, we felt it would be appropriate for the operations of CRB to be overseen by someone that has both significant experience in Country radio broadcasting and a day-to-day affiliation with our organization," says CRB Pres. Becky Brenner. "Bill Mayne was a logical choice to help accomplish that goal and provide CRB with a greater sense of stability leading up to CRS 2010." Mayne currently serves on the CRB board of directors and is President of the ACM.
 

» Changes In Springfield: Clear Channel's WPKX/Springfield, MA morning co-host Shaggy has exited the station. MD/morning co-host Mike Tyler and co-host Jen Arra continue as Kix In The Morning.
 

» Meet Virginia: Two Virginias Media's Sports WAMN-AM/Bluefield, WV flipped to Classic Country as "Willie" last Wednesday (1/13). Operations Dir. Jason Reed is handling PD duties; reach him here. The station is currently at a signal disadvantage while its FM translator is under repair.

» Paste's Great: Representing WRHI/Rock Hill, SC, Karla Davis was named the 28th Annual Colgate Country Showdown's "Best New Act in Country Music" at Thursday night's (1/14) Ryman Auditorium finals. Davis won the $100,000 grand prize and performed her original songs "Keep Moving On" and "Whiskey's Got A Job To Do" in front of a panel of judges that included Fletcher Foster, Sony Music/Nashville VP/A&R Jim Catino, CAA Agent Rod Essig, producer Fred Foster and Warner Music/Nashville Sr. Dir./A&R Chris Lacy. » Chronicle: Our condolences are extended to the friends and family of Country Music Hall of Famer Carl Smith, who died Saturday (1/16). He was 82. Smith topped the charts in 1952 with "Let Old Mother Nature Have Her Way," "(When You Feel Like You're In Love) Don't Just Stand There," and "Are You Teasing Me." He had daughter Carlene Carter with his first wife, the late June Carter Cash, before marrying Goldie Hill in 1957. Hill passed in 2005. Visitation was held yesterday (1/18), with funeral services this morning (1/19).

» Double The Fund: WPOC/Baltimore PD Meg Stevens and APD/MD Justin Cole celebrate raising $5,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at the station's Concert 4 the Kids Friday night (1/15). Pictured (l-r) are Easton Corbin, Stevens, Bucky Covington, St. Jude rep Marie Lofton, Cole and Chris Young. The next night, Corbin, Covington and Young played the Country Cares for St. Jude Concert for sister WMZQ/Washington, DC (also programmed by Stevens), which raised an additional $12,000 for the hospital.
