» Bad Santa: Another lump of coal for Country during the Holiday PPM period, as of the final 28 stations with numbers released today, 20 of them took a hit. Their reports are followed by a handful of diary metros among the top 150 markets. All PPM figures are persons 6+ (12+ for diary-measured stations), Monday-Sunday, 6am-midnight, with rankings in parentheses. Additional stations with diary ratings released this week will appear in Country Aircheck Weekly next Monday (2/1).

  • Denver: Lincoln Financial’s KYGO experienced its PPM low since the methodology launched in July, falling 5.3-4.6 (4-5), with cume down 15,200 to 488,200 (7-8). In share, it’s the same situation for Wilks’ KWOF, which declined 1.7-1.4 (24-25), but added 18,100 listeners to total 228,800 (21-20).
  • Baltimore: CC’s WPOC also witnessed its softest sweep since PPM began last July, 6.8-5.6 (4-4), with cume down 63,800 to 461,200 (4-5). Delmarva’s WXCY/Wilmington, DE faded 1.2-0.9 (25-27), with its reach down 28,400 (25%) to 83,300 (27-30).
  • Portland: Alpha’s KUPL delivered one of the few strong increases, up 4.3-5.4 (7t-4), its highest share rank since PPM debuted in October. Its cume slipped 3,900 to 354,200. Entercom’s KWJJ also gained, rising 3.6-3.9 (10t-10), with cume down an even 25,000 to 367,400 (8-9).
  • Pittsburgh: CBS Radio’s WDSY declined for the fourth straight survey, 6.9-6.4 (4t-5), its lowest since PPM started last July. Its audience was off 41,100 to 435,300. Keymarket’s three-station cluster performed as follows: WOGG 1.6-1.5 (16-19), with cume down 2,000 to 128,300 (18-18); WOGI 1.5-1.4 (17t-20), with audience up 4,400 to 173,800 (16-14); and WOGH 1.0-0.8 (21-22t), with listenership down 8,700 to 89,900 (20-20). WOGG experienced its lowest share in PPM, while WOGI and WOGH tied theirs.
  • Sacramento: CBS Radio’s KNCI was level at a 4.5 (7-6), with cume down 9,000 to 318,300 (11-10). Entravision’s KNTY tumbled to a new low in its four PPM periods, 3.7-2.0 (12-18t), with audience off  61,600 (nearly 26%) to 177,600.
  • Cincinnati: Bonneville’s WUBE also was given a PPM low, down 8.3-7.1 (2-3), with its reach down 47,800 to 444,400 (6-8). Co-owned WYGY picked up 1.2-1.4 (18t-18), though cume was off 12,700 to 158,500 (17-17).
  • Cleveland: CC’s WGAR received a PPM low, down 7.1-5.2 (4-7). Its cume fell 46,500 to 393,500 (8-9). Rubber City’s WQMX/Akron shifted 1.2-1.1 (18t-19), dropping 19,000 listeners for a total of 131,100 (17-17).
  • Salt Lake City: It’s a PPM low for Citadel’s KUBL 5.0-4.7 (5-5), shedding 2,800 cume to reach 400,500 (5-5). KSOP, Inc.’s KSOP advanced 2.2-2.9 (19t-12t), adding 44,900 listeners to cume 298,800 (15-11). Scott Knoblauch’s Classic Country KKAT-FM moved 2.5-2.4 (16-16), with its reach down 8,500 to 135,400 (23-23). Simmons’ KEGA improved 1.8-2.1 (21t-19), serving 247,600 listeners (16-15), down 700.
  • San Antonio: Cox’s KCYY had its lowest PPM, too, down 9.4-8.5 (1-3), with cume declining 15,300 to 634,200 (1-2). CC’s KAJA drifted back 6.3-6.2 (7-7, and also a PPM low), but gained 13,500 listeners to total 516,000 (6-6). Cox’s Classic Country KKYX-AM edged ahead 0.9-1.0 (20-19t), with cume up 800 to 68,800 (20-21).
  • Kansas City: It’s a tie here, as Wilks’ KBEQ dipped 4.5-4.3 (10t-10t), equaled by sister station KFKF, 4.4-4.3 (12-10t). KBEQ’s cume declined 55,500 to 270,700 (10-11), while KFKF’s audience was off 7,500 to 276,600 (11-10). Entercom’s WDAF, the December format leader, slid 4.6-3.6 (9-15), with cume down 41,300 to 286,000 (9-9), still the most of the three competitors.
  • Las Vegas: CC’s KWNR held steady at a 3.8 (10-10t), with cume up 10,600 to 230,800 (14-14). Beasley’s KCYE settled back 3.0-2.8 (14t-14), adding 300 listeners to reach a PPM-best 245,500 (11-12).

Diary metros:

  • Corpus Christi, TX: CC’s KRYS was down 6.7-5.0 (2-6), while Tejas Broadcasting’s KOUL nudged forward 3.3-3.5 (10t-10t), as did Quality’s KFTX 2.4-2.7 (15-14t). Reina’s KBSO shifted 2.2-2.0 (16-16t).
  • Roanoke: Mel Wheeler’s market-leading WSLC accelerated 9.5-10.8, staying in front. CC’s WYYD rose 3.8-4.9 (9-8), beating Fall ‘08’s 4.6.
  • Springfield, MO: Journal’s metro champ KTTS slipped 11.6-11.3, but is still on top by more than three shares. CC’s KSWF gained 5.5-6.1 (10t-5-4t), and has more than doubled in the past year. MW Springmo’s Classic Country  KOMG  moved 3.7-3.6 (10-11t), but beat its 3.0 from 12 months ago. Earls’ KHOZ vanished 1.3-0.0; it had been No. 16.
 



» Top Line At Nine: Former Carolwood reps Stephanie Keshe and Dave Collins will join Nine North Feb. 1 as regional directors of NE/MW and WC/SW promotion, respectively. They succeed Ryan Barnstead and Greg Stevens, who moved to sister Turnpike Music Wednesday (CAT 1/27). "Both Stephanie and Dave were part of an excellent team that most recently broke Love And Theft top 10 in a very challenging environment," says Nine North & Turnpike Pres. Larry Pareigis. "I look forward to them bringing their professionalism and magic to Nine North 2.0." » New Lisa Life: American Media's Country Weekly Photo Editor Lisa Konicki has risen to Editor, industry vet Ken Tucker has been named Managing Editor and Eva Elliott has re-joined as Art Director while Larry Holden, David Scarlett and Jerry Holthouse, respectively, exit those roles at the company. Konicki has been with the publication for 13 of its 15 years. In addition to his new position, Tucker will continue teaching at Belmont University and editing the Billboard Country Update. » Hart Exits WWGR: Though unconfirmed by station execs, Country Aircheck has learned that Renda's WWGR/Ft. Myers APD/MD/PM driver Steve Hart has exited. Hart started in afternoons at WWGR 11 years ago, rising to MD in 2003 and to APD in 2005.
 

» Generation Next: Former Midas Records Assoc. Dir./Promotion Mary Befera has joined New Generation Programming as Nat'l Dir./Affiliate Sales.
