» Choice Engagement: Clear Channel Sr. VP/Programming and VP/Country Clay Hunnicutt has added Community Engagement Director duties as SVPP Darren Davis becomes SVP/Premium Choice. Announced in an email to staff from CC CEO John Hogan, the moves put Hunnicutt at the center of the company's commitment to community involvement in all of its markets. Davis, whose regional SVPP role is now open, takes on oversight of the Premium Choice effort across all formats. "Each format has its own PD who runs the format day-to-day," Davis tells Country Aircheck. "I'll work with that team of PDs."

» Montgomery's Ward: Though unofficially in place for some time, Davis confirms to Country Aircheck that WBCT/Grand Rapids PD Doug Montgomery is the Country PD for Premium Choice. In that role, Montgomery oversees music and talent for the Premium Choice offerings now widely in use in various dayparts across CC's Country properties.

» Palm Pilot: Clear Channel's WCTQ/Sarasota PD Sammy Cruise is trading in the Gulf waters for the Atlantic as he becomes APD/MD/middayer for CBS Radio's WIRK/West Palm Beach June 1. He fills the midday shift left vacant by former PD Mitch Mahan's exit last December (CAT 12/16/08) and takes on the new APD title to supplement OM/PD John O'Connell. Cruise's last day in Sarasota is Friday (5/29) and WCTQ OM Eddie Rupe is seeking a replacement. Send airchecks and resumes here.

» Strait Up Country: "I think they're a couple of decades late getting to you," Alan Jackson told George Strait during the April taping of the ACM Artist of the Decade special honoring the Texas-based icon. Country Aircheck was there to bring you an early look at the great stories and funny moments from this music-filled special airing at 7pm ET tomorrow (5/27) on CBS-TV. Strait sat with his family on the side of the stage and watched as some of the biggest names in music performed his material. "The bad news," Toby Keith joked, "is he's been so successful he has to listen to all of us butcher his stuff." Tim McGraw performed "Marina Del Rey," Sugarland offered "Adalida," John Rich played "Amarillo By Morning" and Jackson covered "The Fireman."

Dierks Bentley prefaced his performance by pointing out that getting Strait to record one of your songs is the songwriter's holy grail, and joked about the lengths some would go to pitch a song. Bentley then drew a big laugh from Strait by pulling a CD song demo out of his back pocket and handing it over. "No pressure," Dierks said. "Just get back to me later. Tonight, if you could." More from the taping in tomorrow's edition.
