He assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the six-station group, which includes Country KFLG-FM/Bullhead City. Powers' background includes programming and on-air positions in L.A., Anaheim and Las Vegas and a five-year stint in promotion with Curb/Nashville. Reach him here.

» Golden-Eyed: Citadel Media Dir./Affiliate Relations & Distribution Sales Lisa Strickland will join Golden Music/Nashville as Dir./Northeast Regional Promotion Nov. 2. She picks up the region from VP/Promotion Brad Howell. Strickland previously worked with Howell when Asylum merged with Warner Bros. in 2000, and her husband Brinson serves as the label's Pres./CEO. » Los In Translation: In what could become a precedent-setting case, KKGO/Los Angeles owner Mt. Wilson Broadcasters filed a petition with the FCC Friday against CBS Radio/Los Angeles, alleging that CBS Radio is using an HD-3 channel from KTWV/Los Angeles as a translator to broadcast sister Country station KFRG (K-Frog)/Riverside into the L.A. market. "I don't sit kindly about what CBS is doing with K-Frog," said Mt. Wilson owner Saul Levine. "It is a mean-spirited thing, and we've determined what they are doing is not permissible. They are using the HD band as a translator, and you can't use a translator to extend the station's primary coverage. K-Frog's signal reaches just east of downtown L.A. It is not allowed." Apparently, KFRG has been on a CBS L.A. HD channel before, most recently an HD-2 signal of the former KLSX (now KAMP). CBS Radio was not available for comment at presstime. In the Los Angeles September '09 PPM, KFRG scored a 0.3 share 6+, compared to KKGO's 3.1.

» Lynn To Exit KUPL: KUPL/Portland morning co-host Alana Lynn was given the news last Friday (10/23) that Dec. 4 will be her last day on the air at the Alpha Broadcasting outlet. That followed by a week the announcement from partner Lee Rogers that his last day on KUPL mornings would be Dec. 18 (CAT 10/16). Lynn spent the last three-and-a-half-years at KUPL, coming from KBQI/Albuquerque, where she also co-hosted mornings. She told Country Aircheck she's willing to relocate anywhere in the USA. Contact her at 503-200-9660 or here.

He replaces Nathan Baker, who exited earlier this month. This is a homecoming for the Muncie native, who previously held down nights on 'MDH. Reach him here.

» Focus Pocus: "Normal People: From The Mouths Of The Consumer" is a live focus group panel to be held Friday, Feb. 26 at CRS-41. Panelists will represent a cross-section of regional Country radio markets of varying sizes. "Sometimes it just makes sense to step back and ask the people that listen to the music and buy the records exactly what's on their mind," says panel moderator and WUBL/Atlanta APD/MD Lance Houston. This will be the first live focus group held during the Seminar since CRS-35. And, don't forget the early-bird rate of $499 expires Friday (10/30). Register here.

» Against The Wynn: If he had any doubts about his comeback, Garth Brooks should feel a whole lot more confident about it today. It took less than five hours last Saturday (10/24) to sell out his first 20 dates at the Wynn Las Vegas' Encore Theatre, with more than two million hits and 142,000 callers crashing the Wynn's ticketing system along the way. There will be a chance to see Brooks' sold-out concerts with unclaimed or returned tickets the day of the shows, which begin Dec. 11. Future Brooks Encore engagements will be announced at a later date. Officials also warn concertgoers about purchasing scalpers' tickets, which are going for upwards of $1,000 online. Those will be canceled at the door and the purchaser will only be refunded the face value of admission, which is $125, plus fees. Sign up for future concert info here.
