» Not Dead Yet: Contrary to the oft-heard statement that "no one listens to the radio anymore," broadcast radio still dominates 50% of all daily audio use by adults 18+, according to Nielsen's study called How U.S. Adults Use Radio And Other Forms Of Audio, released this month. The report is based on listening behavior in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia and Seattle in Spring/Fall '08. Second to AM and FM listening was a CD/tape player at 16% of the time, followed by "other audio" (13%), satellite radio (8%), iPod/mp3 player (5%), streaming audio on computer (4%) and mp3s stored on computer (4%). It should be noted that Nielsen's estimate of 9.63 hours of radio listening per week by adults 18+ is considerably lower than Arbitron's, whose national U.S. estimates from Fall '08 show radio listening by adults 18+ averaged 16 hours per week and ranged from 13.75 to 18.25 hours, depending on the demo and gender.
