» Santa Arbera: As the holiday PPM season gets underway next week, here are the first of three days of Arbitron figures for November. Listed in order by metro size, all ratings are persons 6+, Monday-Sunday, 6am-midnight, with rankings in parentheses.
  • Los Angeles: Mt. Wilson's KKGO declined 2.8-2.3 (15t-20t), with cume down 59,400 to 1,118,200 (21-23). In November '08, Go Country had an identical share and rank, with a reach of 1,037,200 (24). CBS Radio's KFRG/Riverside held steady at a 0.4 (47), while its cume grew 17,600 to 383,700 (41-39).
  • Chicago: CBS Radio's WUSN was down 4.6-4.2 (5-6), with 1,189,100 listeners (11-13), off by 71,800. However, US99 continues to be America's most-listened-to Country broadcaster for the fourth month in a row. Last November, the station posted a 4.0 (8) and an audience of 1,094,600 (14).
  • San Francisco: After four straight declines, Entercom's KBWF recovered 1.9-2.1 (21-19t). The Wolf's cume dipped 41,300 to a PPM-low 459,900 (24-25). A year ago, the station pulled a 2.0 (19) with a reach of 552,100 (21). Empire's KRTY gained 1.0-1.1 (28t-27t), marking its best share since September '08. Its audience eased 2,100 off last month's record-setting survey to 256,500 (30t-29). But both figures are significantly improved over November '08, when 'RTY had a 0.8 (37t) and 187,000 listeners (36).
  • Dallas: Cumulus' KPLX slipped 5.5-5.4 (2-2), and its cume fell 47,500 to 1,126,200 (4-5), although that tally was good enough to rise from No. 3 to No. 2 in the nation. The year before, KPLX notched a 4.7 (3) and 1,264,000 listeners (3). Citadel's KSCS dipped 4.2-4.0 (3-7), with its audience declining by 103,600 (-11%) to 802,800 (10-13). In November '08, 'SCS also had a 4.0 (6) with a reach of 941,700 (10).
  • Houston: It's turning into a 6+ dogfight here, as Cox's KKBQ shifted 3.8-3.7 (10-11t), though its cume expanded 47,300 to 1,103,200 (7-7). This was the first time 'KBQ had drawn a million since June, and it continues to rank No. 4 nationally in reach. A year ago, the station delivered a 4.3 (6) and an audience of 915,800 (10). Meanwhile, CBS Radio's KILT-FM scored its best book in 14 months and pulled within two-tenths of KKBQ, rising 3.2-3.5 (14t-13), while its audience widened 18,500 to 922,300. Last November, the station earned a 2.9 (16) and a cume of 833,700 (14).
  • Philadelphia: Beasley's WXTU moved 4.2-4.0 (8t-9t) with 670,100 listeners (16-17), down 29,100. A year ago, 'XTU's numbers were nearly the same: a 3.9 (9t) with 689,500 cume (17).
  • Riverside: Since a big July monthly, CBS Radio's KFRG drifted down for the fourth consecutive sweep, 3.8-3.7 (7t-8). However, its audience reached a record 329,400 (10-8), up 10,700; that rank is also a station best. Last November, KFRG generated a 4.0 (8) and 274,800 listeners (12). Mt. Wilson's KKGO improved for the third straight month, 1.6-1.7 (23t-23t), which is its best in the PPM era here. Cume was up 6,200 to 120,300 (31-27).
  • San Jose: Empire's KRTY edged back 3.9-3.8 (9-9), but broke its cume record for the third survey in a row, up 14,300 to 223,900 (9-9). The year before, 'RTY had a 3.0 (13t) and 148,500 listeners (22), making it, by percentages, one of America's most improved stations over the past 12 months.

» That's Just Jesse: Former KCCY/Colorado Springs PD Jesse Garcia will join NRG Media/Wausau-Stevens Point, WI as OM Friday (12/4). Garcia, who exited in the mass Clear Channel layoffs earlier this year (CAT 4/30), will oversee four stations including Country WYTE. He succeeds Mark Skibba, who is leaving the industry next week (12/9) to take a local public relations gig. It is also likely Garcia will hold an airshift on 'YTE, but that is yet to be determined.

"I've been so inspired by the people of these countries," Currington says. "They survive on very little, and it serves as a reminder that I am very blessed and can provide assistance. The goal is to make this an annual trip and to reach as many countries as we can in the future to provide these people with some relief." Currington, along with songwriters Brett Jones, Scotty Emerick and Dallas Davidson, will perform a free show Saturday (12/5) at Sloppy Joe's in Key West, FL to raise awareness for the effort. After the event, they will travel to Guatemala and Costa Rica to deliver the first round of necessities. Details here.
