Emotional Connection: Larkspur Group specializes in leadership, team development, executive coaching and business strategy and President/CEO Lori Addicks today (2/26) presented "Increasing Your Resilience and Performance With EQ (Emotional Intelligence)" at CRS 2015. What's that mean? Addicks explained that 75% of careers are derailed over emotional mismanagement and detailed strategies to better handle those "emotional hijackings."

According to Addicks, the first trick is to identify the "triggers" of these situations and be aware when they start happening. Moods, various personalities in the workplace, offensive language or criticism are possibilities. Diffusing problematic situations becomes possible by taking pause (breathing slowly, shifting the body and reciting a phrase to shift thinking). More generally, make a point to become more aware of how personal emotions impact others, get plenty of sleep, shut out negative thoughts, practice empathy and acknowledge others' feelings and emotions.
