Shake Up Call: New Cumulus CEO Mary Berner ruled out bankruptcy, affirmed her support for the Nash brand and promised more open lines of communication and an improved culture in a 20-minute company-wide conference call today (10/13), her first on the job (Breaking News 9/29). The call followed an internal survey last week allowing employees to anonymously share changes they would like to see. The results, Berner said, showed that the company's top down approach to management had been detrimental. She encouraged employees to reach out to her directly if there were resource needs that weren't being addressed efficiently, promising a reply within 48 hours. "She's excited and she did use the word 'autonomy,'" a source tells Country Aircheck. "It was a pep rally. There are a lot of good, smart radio people in our company and she recognizes that the local level is important." "Programming is the oxygen of Cumulus," Berner reportedly declared.
