Mind Of Their Own: The NAB is petitioning the FCC to revaluate its recent order maintaining media ownership rules, arguing they are "divorced from current competitive realities, are based on faulty premises or misunderstandings of the law, lack evidentiary support and prevent local broadcasters from competing and serving their local communities effectively." The organization argues that the current regulatory structure doesn't properly take into account the effects of the internet within the media landscape and contends there is no evidence it promotes viewpoint diversity or harms localism. See the entire filing here. In conjuntion with that petition, the NAB is withdrawing another asking the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to find the FCC's order as arbitrary and capricious. That action is necessary because both entities can't be petitioned on the matter simultaneously.
