State Of The Art: Radio saw a digital advertising increase of 14% while over-the-air income rose only slightly in 2016, according to the lastest report from BIA/Kelsey. Of the $148.8 billlion in local advertising last year, radio's share was 10.5%. The largest category is direct mail at 24.9% and television is second with 13.3%. Forecasts for 2017 call for radio reaching $14.9 billion in sales. The Entercom/CBS merger gets solid marks, as well. "The combined group will be closer to the size of industry leader iHeartMedia," says BIA/Kelsey SVP Mark Fatrik. "We expect the transaction to have a positive effect on radio." See the report here.
