Chronicle: Radio veteran and Country Radio Hall Of Famer "Uncle Len" Ellis has died. He passed away Sunday (1/14) in Indiana at the age of 89. A Chicago native and the very first member of the CMA, Ellis later founded Porter County Broadcasting with WAKE-AM & WLJE-FM/Valparaiso, IN. He's considered to be among the first to feature country music on FM radio, and according to the CRB, was the first operator to broadcast in stereo in the Chicago area. He served on the CMA's first board of directors in 1958, and served again from 1981 to 1984. Ellis was inducted into the Country Radio Hall Of Fame in 1983. Visitation will be held Thursday (1/18) from 2-7pm at Aberdeen Banquet Center, 216 Ballantrae St. in Valparaiso. Funeral services are set for 11am at Aberdeen Chapel the following day. As reported yesterday (Breaking News 1/15), veteran promotion executive Eddie Mascolo and Curtis/Raleigh VP/Programming and longstanding WQDR programmer Lisa McKay passed away Friday (1/12) and Sunday (1/14), respectively. Service info for Mascolo has changed since our last report due to inclimate weather. Visitation at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 535 Sneed Rd. W., Franklin, TN will now be held from 4-6:30pm tomorrow (1/17) and Thursday (1/18) from 10am-1pm. Funeral mass will immediately follow. Services for McKay are still pending, though donations to Raleigh-area animal shelters in her name are being encouraged. Those include the Wake County SPCA, Saving Grace and Durham APS. Contribute stories and memories of McKay to WQDR's memorial effort here.
