Uvalde Reaction: Tuesday's (5/24) school shooting in Uvalde, TX sent shock waves throughout the country. South Texas Radio KVOU/Uvalde does not stream or have a dedicated website but has been providing local updates and streaming video of local press conferences on its Facebook page here. Uvalde lies just on the fringe of San Antonio signals, and this morning Cox KCYY's Frito & Kay fielded calls from listeners, spoke with local faith leaders and encouraged blood donations with the South Texas Blood Center. "[Uvalde] is only an hour-and-a-half away from here," says PD Christi Brooks. "There are several people in San Antonio who are affected by this. We pulled all contesting off the air for the day and are just being a voice of comfort for our community. We are praying with our friends and families today." iHeart KAJA PD Alek Halverson notes, "We are going to be launching a Uvalde Strong benefit." An online auction will launch tomorrow with proceeds going to affected families. Even as far away as Dallas, a six-hour drive from Uvalde, Cumulus' KSCS & KPLX combo each suspended contesting.
