Chronicle: Veteran radio manager/programmer Lee Douglas passed away Aug. 11. He was 74. Douglas started in radio at the age of 16 in his hometown of Seymour, TX followed by on-air stops in Dallas, Miami and Milwaukee. In 1975, he was named PD of Top 40 WXLO/New York and later moved into station management in St. Louis, Detroit and Seattle. He went Country as the first PD of KYCY/San Francisco in 1994. He served as OM at then-Clear Channel/Salt Lake City, which included Country KKAT, then moved to Riverside in 2003 as OM/PD for KFRG, a position he held until his retirement in 2017 (CAT 6/1/17). Veteran broadcaster and President of the Broadcasters Foundation of America (BFA) Jim Thompson passed away Sunday (8/14) at the age of 75. Thompson started his broadcast career in sales at KYW-TV/Philadelphia where he rose to VP/GM. He later co-owned Liberty Broadcasting and served as Pres./CEO of Group W Radio. Thompson created the Radio Mercury Awards to reward excellence in radio creative. He was named President of BFA in 2009 – more than quadrupling its financial aid distributions – and was set to retire at the end of the year (CAT 10/6/21). No word on services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Jim Thompson Memorial Fund here.

Former First Natchez WQNZ/Natchez, MS on-air personality Dave “Rosco” Kimbro has passed away according to the station. He was 67. “Rosco has been the longtime voice of [WQNZ] and friend to the Miss-Lou,” the station shared yesterday (8/14) via Facebook. “His love for music and life, and his impact on our community, will continue to be felt.” Kimbro returned to the station in 2021 (CAT 1/26/21) coming out of retirement (CAT 10/23/19) to helm afternoons. He previously spent more than 30 years on-air. Memorial service plans are forthcoming.
