Chronicle: Country Radio Hall of Famer Jack “Uncle Don” Rhea passed away June 20 at the age of 88. In more than 25 years on-air in Kansas City, mostly spent handling mornings at Country KCKN, Uncle Don became a prominent disc jockey and influenced and mentored generations of Country on-air personalities. Following on-air and programming roles in San Antonio and Grand Junction, CO, Rhea left the airwaves in 1986 to serve as GM for WATZ-AM & WATZ-FM/Alpena, MI before his retirement in 1995. He was inducted to the CRHoF in 2004; read his induction biography here. No services have been scheduled, but a complete obituary is available here.

Eagle Country KKQY/Hays, KS OM/PD/morning co-host Scott Boomer passed away this morning (7/7) after a short battle with stage 4 colon cancer. He was 50. “Heaven gained a great one,” the station shares via Facebook. Services are currently pending at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary (1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, KS 67601).
