Chronicle: W.S. “Fluke” Holland, who was a drummer for both Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, passed away yesterday (9/23) at his home in Jackson, TN following a short illness. He was 85. Holland first made his way to Memphis alongside Perkins and was behind the kit when Perkins, Cash, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded the impromptu “Million Dollar Quartet” session in 1956. Four years later, he joined Cash for a two-week tour, which turned into 37 years of touring and recording partnerships, eventually serving as Cash’s road manager. In addition to playing on Perkins’ “Blue Suede Shoes” and Cash’s “Ring Of Fire,” he also recorded with Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. Read Holland’s complete obituary here. Visitation will be held September 26 at West Jackson Baptist Church from 10am-12pm CT with the funeral immediately following. Holland will be buried at Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made in his honor to West Jackson’s Hartland Ministry or YouthTown of Tennessee.
