Building Bridges: Following yesterday's (3/26) bridge collapse tragedy in Baltimore, iHeartMedia RSVPP Jeff Kapugi shared with Country Aircheck how his WPOC/Baltimore team handled the events. "From the time I got the call at just before 3am that the Key Bridge was down, we had breaking news on quickly," he says. After getting in touch with morning hosts Laurie De Young and Jeff St. Pierre, they headed into the station to start their show early, putting on callers, info from the press conference and traffic routing updates. That info continued through Bob Delmont's midday show. Afternoon host Michael J welcomed as guests Sen. Ben Cardin from the bridge site, and WPOC alum Bill "Aaron" Rehkoph, a former first responder who "helped the audience work through what was happening at the scene." Michael J also took calls from listeners talking about what the Key Bridge meant to them.

Adds Kapugi, "We were very active on social media along with our iHeartMedia Baltimore sister stations, and connected with listeners there too. Laurie ended up on KIIS/Los Angeles' morning show with Ryan Seacrest to give the L.A. audience the update from Baltimore, and Michael J connected with a morning show from Australia, who were looking for a local update from us. Today it’s been updates as they come and reinforcing the re-routing options that will be the new normal for a while. Very proud of WPOC and the entire Baltimore programming team!"
