On The Clock: Three months after calling a "time out" on their relationship with TikTok (CAT 1/31), Universal Music Group and Universal Music Publishing Group are returning their music to the platform after striking a licensing agreement. In pulling its content, UMG had complained that TikTok "insists on paying our songwriters at a fraction of the rate that similarly situated major social media platforms pay – and without any material increase from our prior agreement." Now, the company says the new deal will "deliver improved remuneration for UMG’s songwriters and artists, new promotional and engagement opportunities for their recordings and songs and industry-leading protections with respect to generative AI."
