San Francisco Treat:
As reported yesterday (5/26) via Twitter and Facebook, Cumulus has acquired former Clear Channel station KSJO/San Jose through the Aloha Station Trust and launched Nash FM 92.3. The station debuted yesterday morning at 9:23am PT with 10,000 songs in a row, and is being positioned as "the only Country radio station in the Bay Area." Programming originates in Nashville, with America's Morning Show, Nash Nights Live and Kickin' It With Kix eventually taking morning, night and overnight slots, respectively.
"San Francisco is an important market for Cumulus as we continue expanding the Nash brand nationally to meet the increasing demand for Country music programming," says EVP/Co-COO John Dickey. "We look forward to providing Bay Area listeners and advertisers with fresh Nash content and unique advertising opportunities in this top five market."
The Bay Area's FM Country history includes Metromedia's KSAN (1980-1997), CBS Radio's KYCY "Young Country" (1994-2002), Bonneville's KZBR "The Bear" (2003-2005) and Entercom's KBWF "The Wolf" (2007-2011). And, of course, Empire's KRTY/San Jose is a strong contender in that market, posting a 5.0 (6t) in San Jose's April PPM.
