Chronicle: Our condolences to friends and family of publicist Michael "Mike" Hyland, who died today (5/28) at his home in Sonoma, Calif. at age 65 after a two-year battle with cancer. Hyland became Capricorn's VP/PR at age 25. He moved to Nashville in 1979 and ran the PR dept. for the country division of Elektra/Asylum. One year later he formed PR firm Network Ink with Liz Thiels, followed by the Hyland Company in 1984. Hyland joined Gaylord Entertainment in 1989 and managed publicity for the re-opening of the Ryman Auditorium. In 1997 Hyland formed Full Court Press with wife Phyllis, where they began working with the wine industry. He wrote for Wine Country This Week and Sonoma Sun. Arrangements are pending and a Nashville memorial is planned.
