Point Of Whoa Returns: Cumulus' KRMD/Shreveport, LA has dropped the Nash FM branding it adopted in the early days of the network's expansion (Breaking News 2/6/14) and returned to the call letters it's been known by for more than 40 years. Taking into account its AM sister, the KRMD calls have an almost 90-year history in the market. Local radio vets Derek James and Melinda Coyer have replaced America's Morning Show. James returns to the station after a seven-year hiatus and prior history with KITT/Shreveport (now KXKS); Coyer's background includes market AC KVKI and Cumulus' now-defunct Hot AC KBED. PD James Anthony, OM Julie Kansy and Cumulus' syndicated Nash Nights Live and Kickin' It With Kix remain in middays, afternoons, evenings and overnights, respectively. A company spokesperson notes that KRMD will continue to air Nash-branded features, special programming and the hourly "powered by Nash" tag line. Listen here.
Other changes are underway at Nash and Nash Icon-branded stations. The company's WOMG (Nash Icon)/Columbia, SC has flipped to Classic Hits and KAMO (Nash FM)/Fayetteville, AR has adopted the Nash Icon brand currently heard on the cluster's KRMW, which will exit the Country format in the coming days. KAMO and KRMW are simulcasting as Nash Icon for now. Local airstaff have not been affected in either market. At least three other stations have dropped the Nash Icon brand in the last seven months, including WZRR/Birmingham (CAT 5/24), KRRF/Ventura, CA (CAT 5/31) and WWWQ-HD2/Atlanta. "We remain very committed to Nash Icon," Cumulus SVP/Content & Programming Mike McVay tells Country Aircheck. "The format continues to air on many Cumulus owned radio stations and is one of the most sought after 24/7 channels on Westwood One. The No. 1 Country station in Nashville, both 6+ and P25-54 according to Nielsen for May 2016, is Nash Icon WSM-FM. That's the most listened-to Country station in Nashville – the capitol for country music. Nash Icon isn't going away."
