Cumulus Shuffles National Talent: America's Morning Show adds Ty Bentli as Blair Garner moves to the newly created The Blair Garner Show in overnights in a significant restructuring of Cumulus' national Country lineup. Bentli joins AMS Sept. 6 alongside continuing personalities Kelly Ford, who joined in January (Breaking News 12/4/15), and Chuck Wicks, who has been with the show since its launch. Garner will step aside Sept. 2 after three years helming the show he helped create (Breaking News 6/10/13), and his new role in overnights commences later this fall – a familiar timeslot for the founder of Premiere's After MidNite. Garner's show replaces Kickin' It With Kix as host Kix Brooks and co-host Suzanne Alexander focus on Brooks' recently renewed tenure with American Country Countdown (CAT 8/11).
"Blair first approached me a couple months ago with the desire to recreate his successful overnight show on a grand scale and the search for his replacement in the morning began," says Mike McVay, Cumulus SVP/Content & Programming. "Ty Bentli has been a part of our company for the past two years as a morning talent in D.C. and has already worked with Kelly and Chuck on the red carpet at our award show broadcasts. Kix will continue with his highly successful American Country Countdown and Suzanne Alexander will continue to partner with him."
"My kids staged what amounted to an intervention," Garner says. "They candidly shared that they were unhappy with how little 'Dad Time' they were getting. It rattled me. Mary [Berner, CEO] and Mike were beyond understanding and graciously agreed to swing me back into my home turf of working overnights."
Bentli's background includes event hosting for Westwood One, Cumulus' Hot AC WRQX/Washington, CBS Radio's Top 40 WNOW/New York, iHeartMedia's Hot AC KBIG/Los Angeles & Top 40 WKSC/Chicago. He also tracked Top 40 and Country shows for iHeart in Atlanta, St. Louis, Phoenix, San Antonio, Nashville and Cleveland. "My wife and I have spent the last several weeks attempting to explain to our three-year-old how awesome life has just become," he says. "Thank you to Mary Berner, Mike McVay, Charlie Cook, John Shomby, Jeff Brown and Allison Warren for the opportunity to extend my time with Cumulus. Thank you to Blair for being a longstanding part of my love for country music and for creating a staff filled with talented people. I am so excited to join Kelly, Chuck, Glenn, Matt and the whole team in Nashville! #TruckYeah."
