Letter Cry: In response to the Department of Justice opening a request for public comment regarding ASCAP and BMI consent decrees, the company's CEOs Elizabeth Matthews and Mike O'Neill, respectively, have responded with an open letter. "The DoJ's attention to this matter represents a clear opportunity to do what BMI and ASCAP have been trying to do for years – modernize music licensing to better reflect the transformative changes in the industry," reads the joint statement. NAB Pres./CEO Gordon Smith also issued a statement, saying, "Broadcasters welcome the opportunity to participate in the Justice Department's review of the music antitrust consent decrees and appreciate that the tone of the DoJ's inquiry recognizes the ongoing importance of this antitrust framework."
