Bull Shift:
iHeartMedia Hot AC KMIY/Tucson has swapped frequencies with Country sister KYWD to become “92.9 The Bull.” The flip kicked off with Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” leading into 10,000 songs commercial-free. The move follows a shift to all-Christmas during the holiday season and a brief reoccurrence of Hot AC on Jan. 1 before stunting as all-Christmas until Jan. 4, airing songs with “America” in the title until Jan. 6 and a loop of “Baby Shark” until the flip. “Tucson has long had a hole in the market for a new Country station that covers the entire metro with a strong signal, and now 92.9 The Bull gives that to Tucson,” says Area Pres./Southwest Steve Earnhart.
Tucson SVPP Nick Bruns will handle programming and can be reached here. Local personalities Rubi, Chris O’Gorman and Celina will handle middays, afternoons and nights, respectively, effective Jan. 25; iHeart Custom talent Billy Greenwood, Boxer and Wayne D handled those shifts previously for The Bull. Nationally syndicated The Bobby Bones Show and After MidNite With Cody Alan will still be heard in mornings and overnights. It is a return to Country on the 92.9 frequency, which aired KOYT “92.9 Coyote Country” from 2001-2003. In the Nielsen Audio Nov. 2020 CDM ratings (CAT 12/8/20), KYWD ranked No. 16 overall in the market with a 1.1 share, trailing Cumulus KIIM, which drew a 6.2 (3). The signal swap moves The Bull from KYWD’s previous 1,750 watts to KMIY’s 93,000 watts and increases the coverage area to more completely service the Tucson metro. Stream the station here.
