Chronicle: Academy of Country Music (ACM) SVP/Creative & Content Lisa Lee passed Saturday (8/21) after a battle with brain cancer. She was 52. In addition to overseeing design, content creation, program books and member magazine Tempo, she produced the Academy's annual industry-focused awards show ACM Honors. She also created and wrote the 2014 coffee table book This Is Country: A Backstage Pass To The Academy Of Country Music Awards. Prior to her 15 years with the Academy, the Arkansas native's stops included CMT, Jim Owens & Associates (TNN Country News) and KTAL-TV/Shreveport. She is survived by her parents, Charlie and Faye Young, husband Doug Lee, daughter Grayson and son Jackson.
"The Academy has lost a huge part of its heart and soul," says CEO Damon Whiteside. "She was a champion for country music and fiercely dedicated to the Academy’s mission ... ACM Honors was her favorite event, and I know she will be singing along and smiling down on us from above on Wednesday night." Visitation will be 5-8pm Friday (8/27) at Moore's Funeral Home, 700 North Second Street, Cabot, AR, followed by a memorial service Saturday. She was 82. A longtime publicist, Morris worked with artists including Exile, Ralph Stanley and Steve Wariner during her tenure. Her husband, Ed Morris, who previously served as a writer and editor for Billboard and CMT, penned a book about the couple’s love story and his time as her caregiver; Stardust: An Alzheimer’s Love Story is available here. As reported late Friday (Chronicle 8/20), Country Music Hall of Famer Tom T. Hall passed away at the age of 85 at his home in Franklin, TN. The family intends to hold a private funeral with a public celebration of life at a later date.
And as reported late Saturday (Chronicle 8/21), Don Everly, half of the Country Music Hall of Fame duo The Everly Brothers, passed away at his home in Nashville at the age of 84. Service details are unknown.
