KRTY Sold:
No official comment yet, but paperwork filed with the FCC today (3/23) shows Empire Broadcasting (dba KRTY, Inc.) has entered into an agreement to sell KRTY/San Jose to Christian broadcaster Educational Media Foundation (EMF) backdated March 9. EMF operates the "K-Love" and "Air1" national formats on more than 1,000 stations. The purchase price for the station looks to be obscured in the FCC paperwork, but appears to be $3,138,000, and a closing date is set for no later than June 1, though EMF may take over programming before closing date and will likely install one of its formats on the signal. The move would leave the Bay Area without a Country signal, though Empire will retain the rights to the intellectual property of KRTY. Empire was founded by Bob Kieve, who passed away two years ago (CAT 5/26/20). KRTY just scored the highest ratings in its 32 years in the format earlier this week (CAT 3/21). See the FCC filing here; an official release is expected soon.
