Chronicle: Songwriter Peter McCann passed away Jan. 26 at his home in Nashville. He was 74. After working in bands and as a solo singer early in life, McCann focused his efforts on songwriting and found a hit when Jennifer Warnes cut his “Right Time Of The Night.” After several years in Los Angeles, McCann relocated to Nashville in 1978 when then-CBS Records purchased his contract from the Fox organization. Among his writing credits were cuts by K.T. Oslin, Janie Fricke, Early Thomas Conley, Baillie And The Boys, Buck Owens, Louise Mandrell, Mickey Gilley and Kathy Mattea. McCann also charted his own Pop radio hit with his 1977 release, "Do You Wanna Make Love." McCann was an active voice for the rights of songwriters and publishers and was a past VP and board member of NSAI. No word on services.
