Emmis Cuts Staff:
Emmis/Indianapolis SVP/MM Charlie Morgan has added oversight responsibilities on an interim basis for its New York cluster following the exit of Deon Levingston as part of company-wide spending cuts after disappointing quarterly earnings. "Yesterday we let 32 employees go," Chairman/CEO Jeff Smulyan said Thursday (1/7) during the company's Q1 earnings call. "This is always very, very hard for us; that is about 3% of our workforce. These employees will be dearly missed. Again, this is a very tough situation for us but we felt we needed to make those changes and we needed to reflect the realities of the economics we are in." Programming and on-air staffs for Emmis' WLHK/Indianapolis were unaffected; no word on the company's WTHI/Terre Haute, IN.
