Combination Lock:
The CBS Radio/Entercom merger reported earlier via Breaking News will create the second-largest radio station owner in the United States with 244 stations, 20 of which are Country. Entercom-owned Country stations include WPAW/Greensboro, WDAF/Kansas City, WLFP/Memphis, KWJJ/Portland, WBEE/Rochester, WGGY/Wilkes-Barre and KSON/San Diego. CBS Radio's Country properties are KFRG/Riverside, KILT/Houston, KMLE/Phoenix, KMNB/Minneapolis, KNCI/Sacramento, WDSY/Pittsburgh, WKIS/Miami, WUSN/Chicago, WXTU/Philadelphia, WYCD/Detroit and KXFG/Riverside, CA. Both companies own Country stations in Seattle: KKWF (Entercom) and KMPS (CBSR). Respective Country revenues for the companies in 2015 according to BIA/Kelsey were $38 million and $118 million. Fifteen stations will be spun off, most likely in Seattle, Sacramento, San Francisco and Boston, to stay within government-mandated ownership limits.
The new company will be known as Entercom, headquartered in Philadelphia and led by current Entercom President/CEO David Field. Its board will be comprised of five current Entercom directors and four nominated by CBS Radio. "These two great companies, with their impressive histories, complementary assets, and premier content and brands, are a perfect strategic and cultural fit, enabling us to deliver local connection on a national scale and drive accelerated growth," Field says. "We look forward to welcoming our talented new colleagues at CBS Radio, and we have the utmost respect for their significant contributions to the industry." Read the full release here.
