FCC Payola Investigation
Payola Investigation: In a post on X, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr says the Enforcement Bureau will investigate "forced quid pro quo" payola allegations raised by Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn. In her letter to Carr, the Senator says content creators are being impacted by radio stations and networks which avoid current payola restrictions by offering more airtime for songs by artists who perform free shows. "This practice is exploitative and should not be tolerated," Blackburn writes. "Artists should not be extorted into providing free labor in exchange for airplay." See full letter here.
