Chronicle: Steve Turner
Chronicle: Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Chairman Emeritus
Steve Turner passed away Feb. 11. He was 77. A Kentucky native, Turner worked as an executive for 20 years with Dollar General, which was founded by his father. He left the company in 1986 and settled in Nashville, focusing on real estate development with projects including the Gulch and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. He joined the Hall's board in 1997, spearheaded its move to downtown in 2001, and served as its chairman from 2008 to 2021. "Steve Turner’s leadership and vision changed Nashville in many ways," says CEO Kyle Young. "But nowhere was his influence more transformative than with our museum. He was a businessman with the soul of a creative artist and the heart of a champion. Simply put, he inspired us and made our museum the success it is today." Visitation will be Feb. 15 9am-12pm at the museum's CMA Theater, followed by services and a reception in the James Lowak Grand Foyer. Complimentary valet will be available in front of Hatch Show Print (224 Rep. John Lewis Way South) from 8:30am to 3pm.
