Golden Howl:
Cumulus KPLX/Dallas has shifted its music to a gold base and dropped airplay on all currents outside of overnights as of Tuesday (3/15). Airstaff and branding remain unchanged. With a library now focused on the '90s and '00s, the average vintage of titles played on 3/15 was 2006.8, compared to 2013.9 on 3/14. KPLX & KSCS PD Mike Preston tells Country Aircheck, "This allows us to have KSCS focused on new country and the Wolf to open up with a separate gold-based mix custom done for Dallas." Cumulus' Dallas cluster is now in line with its other Country-Country combos in Nashville (WSM-FM & WKDF) and Des Moines (KJJY & KHKI), which each have one gold-based and one current-based station. KPLX ranked 13th with a 3.3 share in the January 2022 Nielsen PPM ratings, behind KSCS' 3.7 share, and fell behind KSCS in the cume battle for the first time in 15 years (CAT 2/22). Stream KPLX here.
