Chronicle:
Longtime media advertising executive Dale Pon passed away April 29 from coronavirus (COVID-19) at age 75. He had been stricken immobile due to Parkinson’s in recent years. Pon was the architect of Country WHN-AM/New York and KHJ-AM/Los Angeles marketing plans but may be best known for developing MTV’s famous “I want my MTV!” campaign. His CLIO-nominated subway ads helped WHN bcome the most listened to Country station of all time based on total AQH audience as measured by Arbitron. Pon’s longtime friend and colleague Fred Seibert has documented much of Pon’s career here and collected visuals from his work with WHN here. Services are currently pending due to social distancing regulations in New York; Seibert will host a memorial at a later date.
