Better Call Saul: Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters founder/owner Saul Levine has taken over programming duties at KKGO/Los Angeles for now after having named veteran programming consultant Pat Welsh to the position earlier this month (CAT 6/4). Welsh succeeded Michael Levine, who had programmed KKGO since 2016 and remains in an executive role.
While calling Welsh "a valued resource who has provided services as an independent contractor for two of our other non-country facilities," Saul Levine notes, "It was brought to my attention [the position] has to go through an EEO procedure, which will take a while." He adds, "Pat is still being considered for the programming department. We have had to take a detour ... evaluating his time availability after factoring in the demands of the other two stations he programs for us and the EEO delay."
Noting that he himself has "60 years' experience programming successful radio stations," including managing Country KQKE in Central California, Levine asks Country Aircheck to "reassure Nashville I am just an old cow hand from rural Northern Michigan, not a high falutin CPA." Albright & O'Malley & Brenner Consulting Partner Kenny Jay continues as KKGO's consultant (CAT 5/23).
