Iowa Flooding: The three station Saga/Spencer, IA cluster, which includes Country KICD, was forced off the air June 22 by rising flood waters. "We spent Saturday sandbagging the transmitter building and flood waters took us off the air for about four hours, but a ton of volunteers built a wall around it," says KICD Brand Mgr. Rhonda Wedeking, who adds the station has supplemented its local newscasts with briefings from city officials. "We have four on-air staff who were evacuated, but have just gotten back to assess their homes. Those that live out of town have been taking the locals home for showers, and we are tickled that we get to have a port-a-pot. It will be a long cleanup, but support has been great." Powell KSUX/Sioux City, IA PD/morning host LeRoy Beck tells Country Aircheck that they've fared better. "Our two AM stations had to go on low power due to water near the transmitter site. We have two staff members who have water very close to their homes, but at this point are still dry." KSUX has also added updates from local officials, and is already planning recovery benefits.
