Chronicle: As reported earlier, Country Music Hall of Famer and member of The Oak Ridge Boys Joe Bonsall passed today (7/9) from complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. He was 76. Bonsall has been a member of the Oaks for 50 years, retiring from the road earlier this year (CAT 1/3). Joining the long-running quartet in 1973, Bonsall offered tenor vocals to a string of hits including 15 No. 1s. He is also the author of 11 books, including the memoir I See Myself. At his request, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association or Vanderbilt's ALS Research Center.
Radio veteran and former Epic Southeast promotion rep Chris Michaels died July 7 from a heart attack at his home in Woodstock, GA. He was 69. Michaels began his career in college radio, working at WKMZ/Clarksburg, WV, then moving on to Pittsburgh stations WKHB, WFFM and WDSY before joining Epic in 1990. Most recently, he ran Chris Michaels Promotions. Visitation is set for tomorrow (7/10) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, with a funeral to follow July 11 at 11am at St. Michael The Archangel Church in Woodstock.
