Chronicle: Opry Star Jeannie Seely Passes

Grammy-winning Grand Ole Opry star and SiriusXM Willie's Roadhouse host Jeannie Seely died today (8/1) at a Nashville-area hospital as a result of complications from an intestinal infection. Seely had battled health issues since last fall. In her seven-decade career, the singer-songwriter played the Opry 5,397 times, more than any other artist in the show's history; her last Opry show was in February. In 2018, Seely began hosting her weekly Sundays with Seely show on Willie’s Roadhouse. She won her Grammy Award for "Don't Touch Me" in the Best Country & Western Female Vocal Performance category in 1967, and earned two additional Grammy nominations in her career. Her other Top 10 hits were "I'll Love You More (Than You Need)," "Wish I Didn't Have To Miss You" (with Jack Greene) and "Can I Sleep In Your Arms." A memorial service will be announced in the coming days. Saturday's (8/2) Opry show will be dedicated to Seely.
