Chronicle: Longtime station owner
James Whitaker passed away Aug. 8 at the age of 93. He put WJSB-AM/Crestview, FL on the air in 1954 with his stepfather. They sold the station three years later, but Whitaker stayed on as Chief Engineer. He repurchased the station and its new FM sister, WAAZ, in 1970. Whitaker had owned and managed the stations ever since, with both carrying Country formats most of that time. Services are pending.
