Hugh Prestwood passed away Sept. 22. He was 82. Born and raised in El Paso, TX, Prestwood moved to New York City at the age of 30, where he was discovered by arranger Alan Lorber. His first hit was on the pop charts (Judy Collins' "Hard Time For Lovers"), but his work was soon in demand in Nashville. His first No. 1 was 1983's "The Sound Of Goodbye" for Crystal Gayle. Subsequent No. 1s include "Ghost In This House," "Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart," which was named BMI Song of the Year, and "The Song Remembers When," which won a Prime Time Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Music and Lyrics. Prestwood was inducted in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame 2006. No word on services.
