CC Launches Country In Raleigh: Clear Channel flipped Rhythmic Top 40 WKSL/Raleigh to "Carolina's New Country B93.9" yesterday afternoon (11/1). "America’s hottest format is New Country and B93.9 will feature the biggest stars – more than any other station in Raleigh,” says CC/Raleigh OM Chris Edge. "Carolina’s New Country station is B93.9 – this station is made for Country fans, both young and old." Curtis Media's market leading WQDR had been the market's sole Country outlet since CC flipped WRDU to News Talk (now Classic Rock) in Nov. 2009.
New Country B93.9 launched commercial-free at 4pm ET yesterday with Luke Bryan's "That's My Kind of Night." Since then, it has averaged nine currents, six recurrents and two golds an hour, with all of the gold titles coming from the last few years. While there is no word on programming plans once this commercial free weekend ends, it has been announced that The Bobby Bones Show will debut on New Country B93.9 on Dec. 2.
In the October Nielsen Audio PPM ratings, WQDR was No 1 6+ with an 8.4; WKSL was 11th with a 3.4.
