Chronicle: Vienneau
Jim-Vienneau23.jpg Chronicle: Veteran producer/A&R executive Jim Vienneau passed Nov. 9. He was 97. Vienneau was born in Albany, NY, and was mentored under his uncle, MGM Records founder Frank Walker, who discovered Hank Williams. In 1958, Vienneau signed Conway Twitty and produced his first hit, "It's Only Make Believe." He produced artists including Hank Williams Jr., Roy Orbison and Mel Tillis, and launched MGM's Nasvhille division in 1965. Vienneau helmed 20th Century's Nashville start-up in 1974 before returning to MGM when it was absorbed into Polydor in 1976. He later worked in publishing at Acuff-Rose and Opryland Music Group.
