Hot Air: iHeartMedia Country WEBG (Big 95.5)/Chicago began stunting today (9/3) at 11am CT as Roy Rogers’ “Happy Trails” followed the final song in WEBG’s regular playlist, Kip Moore’s “She’s Mine.” The 11am hour included R.E.M.’s “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name,” Pink’s “So What,” Hank Williams’ “Move It On Over,” Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The U.S.A.” Titles from The Cranberries, Eric Church, Miley Cyrus, Johnny Cash, Amy Winehouse, Carrie Underwood, Alanis Morissette, Prince, Cypress Hill, Beck and Kendrick Lamar were heard throughout the afternoon. Impersonations of Bill Clinton and Dave Letterman were also broadcast along with "end of the world" and pandemic-related imaging and updates from the "Fake News Network." Stream the station here.

iHeart flipped Regional Mexican WNUA to Country as "Big" in 2015 (CAT 1/5/15) to compete against crosstown then-CBS Radio Country WUSN. In the most recent Nielsen PPM release (RATS 8/31), WUSN pulled a 2.3 (20) and had a cume of 735,600 while WEBG drew a 2.1 (21) and a 573,900 cume. Country Aircheck hears WEBG is set to flip at 5pm CT today and will move to a Rock or AC format with a '90s lean. In July, iHeart flipped AC WMIA/Miami to "Totally 93.9, All '90s All The Time" with a playlist that includes Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, NSync, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin and Destiny's Child. At the time of launch, iHeartMedia/Miami SVPP Rob Miller stated, "In these anything but normal times, we believe our audience is craving a familiar and nostalgic listening experience that brings back fun memories of their high school and college years, and we think Totally 93.9 is da bomb." Could a similar format be headed to Chicago? Stay tuned for more.
