The New KOKE:
Former KVET/Austin morning personality Bob Cole (CAT 12/15) has teamed with two other investors to purchase REO Radio Group's Christian Talk KLGO/Thorndale, TX, which they'll flip to a Texas-centric Country format on Sunday (7/8) with new calls KOKE. Thorndale is 40 miles Northeast of Austin, a market where Cole and those calls are considered iconic. Prior to his two-decade stint in mornings at Clear Channel's crosstown KVET, the Country Radio Hall of Famer worked at KOKE, a then-influential progressive Country station with a diverse playlist. In its new iteration, KOKE will feature a similar format anchored by Cole in mornings on the 99.3 frequency and simulcast on a third party-owned separate translator at 98.5. Cole tells Country Aircheck that together, the two signals will cover the majority of the Austin Metro."Our story is being all about Austin," he says. "The best way to be a part of Austin is to be owned by people in Austin." Reach Cole here.
